Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 August 2026

The Franchise Room ("we," "us," or "our") publishes sports coverage across the NFL, NBA, MLB, world football and more. This policy explains what information we collect from visitors and commenters, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it in plain language rather than dense legalese.

What we don't collect

Reading The Franchise Room doesn't require an account. We do not ask readers to register, log in, or provide a password, and we don't collect payment information from readers. There's no reader profile of any kind on this site.

Comments

If you leave a comment on an article, we store only the display name you type in (1–60 characters), the text of your comment (1–2,000 characters), and the time you posted it. We do not require or store an email address, an account, a password, or your IP address alongside your comment. Comments post immediately without pre-moderation, and comments are public — anyone visiting the article can read them.

Administrators of this site can delete any comment at their discretion. If you'd like a comment you posted removed, see "Contact" below. Deleting the article a comment belongs to removes that comment along with it.

Contact form

If you use the form on our Contact page, we store the name and email address you provide, your message, and — only if you choose to include one — a phone number. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry; it's read by our editorial staff, not shared with third parties, and not used for marketing. As with comments, we do not store your IP address alongside your submission.

Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

To keep spam and automated submissions off the comment section and contact form, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, a captcha-style challenge, when you submit either one. Verifying a submission sends the Turnstile token and your IP address to Cloudflare so it can confirm you're not a bot. We do not store your IP address ourselves — it's used only in that verification call.

Analytics

We use, or may use, Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic to the site — for example, how many people viewed a page. It's cookieless and doesn't perform cross-site tracking or fingerprinting; it simply counts page views in aggregate. We also keep a per-article view count (a running total on each article) that is not tied to any individual visitor.

We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (city/region level, not precise), device and browser type, and how visitors arrived at the site. Unlike Cloudflare Web Analytics, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (see "Cookies" below) and Google may process this data outside your country. You can read Google's privacy policy atpolicies.google.com/privacy, and opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all sites using theGoogle Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Cookies

Reading and commenting on The Franchise Room doesn't require a cookie of our own, but Google Analytics (see "Analytics" above) sets its own cookies on every visit to distinguish visitors and sessions. If we run advertising on the site (see "Advertising" below), the ad-serving vendor sets additional cookies as described there. If we ever add a strictly necessary, functional cookie of our own, we'll update this section to describe it clearly.

Advertising

The Franchise Room uses, or may use, Google AdSense and other Google advertising products to display ads on the site. Google and its advertising partners use cookies — including the DoubleClick/DART cookie — and similar technologies (like web beacons) to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure how those ads perform. We don't control what these third-party vendors do with that data beyond what's described in their own privacy policies; you can read Google's atpolicies.google.com/technologies/ads.

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google atGoogle Ads Settings, and from other participating vendors ataboutads.info/choices(or, in the EU,youronlinechoices.eu). Opting out doesn't stop ads from appearing — it stops them from being personalized based on your browsing activity.

Your privacy choices (California)

If you're a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" as those terms are defined under California law — which can include the cookie-based ad personalization described above. You can exercise that opt-out using the advertising choices links above, or reach us via our Contact page with any question about your data. We won't discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. If you submit a request, we aim to respond within the time required by law.

Your data protection rights (EEA/UK — GDPR)

If you're located in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the following rights over the limited personal data described in this policy (mainly, contact-form submissions and, indirectly, analytics and ad-personalization cookies):

  • Right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data, under certain conditions.
  • Right to object — object to our processing of your data, including for personalized advertising.
  • Right to data portability — request that we transfer data we hold to you or another organization, under certain conditions.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via ourContact page. We'll respond within one month. Personalized advertising is only shown to EEA/UK visitors once the appropriate consent mechanism is in place for your visit; where it isn't, you'll see non-personalized ads instead (or none at all).

Hosting and infrastructure

This site runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare, as our hosting, content-delivery, and security provider, processes standard request data (including IP addresses) to deliver pages, protect against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, and prevent abuse. You can read Cloudflare's own privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Admin access

The site's admin area, used to publish and manage articles, is restricted to authorized administrators — sports-desk staff, not visitors — and protected by Cloudflare Access. Actions taken in the admin area may be attributed internally to the administrator's email address for authorship and accountability purposes. This has nothing to do with reader or visitor data.

We don't sell your data

We do not sell personal data to third parties for money. Our advertising vendors' own cookie-based ad personalization (see "Advertising" above) can count as a "sale" or "sharing" of information under some state privacy laws even without money changing hands — that's exactly what the opt-out links above are for.

Third-party links

Articles and pages here may link out to other websites — news sources, official team or league sites, social media, and so on. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of those third-party sites, so we'd encourage you to review their own policies before sharing information with them.

Children's privacy

The Franchise Room is a general-audience sports publication and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we don't knowingly serve personalized advertising to visitors we know to be under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
